Day 10, Wednesday, November 9, 2016 - Twiltley Branch COE Campground, Collinsville, MS

The View From My Back Window
Wednesday, November 9, 2016 - Twiltley Branch COE Campground, Collinsville, MS - 263.1 Miles, 1369.4 Miles For the Trip

More interstate driving, mostly on I 65 & I 20. A bit further than my usual daily driving, but I'm at the Twiltley Branch Core Of Engineers Campground, site 14, a water & electric site for $10.00 with the Senior pass. A nice site backed by Lake Okatibbee.

There is an interesting (actually, a couple of them) sign at the entrance to the camping area. It shows the high water mark in 1978. The lake is used to control flooding downstream. I'd just as soon it doesn't get used that way while I'm here - even if the base of the tree the sign sits on is the "high water mark", my trailer would be floating. If it is the level of the sign, the entire trailer would be under water! While the site is great, the bathrooms & showers are a long walk away. I'm glad I have a bathroom in the trailer.  More photos at today's LakeshoreImages page.

The other interesting sign warns not to swim in the lake - seems there are alligators. Another sign I'm getting far enough south besides the 73°F afternoon temperature, is the first appearance of egrets. The fishing looks good - one guy on one side of me caught a 5 lb bass yesterday, and the guy on the other side spent the better part of an hour cleaning a bunch of perch.

Dinner was a Bubba Burger & beans.

Until tomorrow -
