Opening Day at Rudy's

Rudy's

Well you wouldn't know it by the ice still on the lake or recent temperatures, but it is Spring. Oswego's official sign of Spring is the opening of Rudy's. A few weeks ago you could barely see the building behind the snow banks, but with some payloader work the parking lots are cleared. Not crowded 3 deep as it would be during a warmer opening day, it is still great to stop in for a fish sandwich.

Not much else happening here in Oswego.  The last of the snow will be melted off the roof by morning, although there is still plenty on the ground.  I'm doing some work on the trailer getting it ready for a trip to the Townsend KOA in Townsend, TN in early April for a fiberglass trailer rally.

Until next time -

Spring?

Lake Ontario in January
Well, it has been a long time since posting, but while I'm not on the road yet (the trailer is still buried in snow) I thought it might be a good time to update those of you who were smart enough to head South.

While January's average world wide temperatures were the second highest in history, we have had the coldest February ever.  In fact, the average February temperature for Syracuse was 9°F, the coldest for any month in history.  While the snowfall has been near average, most of it fell in February; we still have 2' - 3' on the ground with higher drifts. I even had to shovel my roof.  While I probably could have skipped it, once the snow is over 3' deep I get worried.

We do have a sign of Spring about 2 weeks away; the opening of Rudy's.  Rudy's is a fish stand on Lake Ontario famous for it's "hot" sauce, which is applied to everything from fish sandwiches to hot dogs.  Hard to believe they will be able to open - here is what it looks like today.

The lake is just behind the building, although you will just have to take my word for that.  If you look in the distance, you can see a pay loader that is starting to clear the parking area & the front of the building:

Digging Out

Since they do manage to clear things in time for the mid March opening each year (2007 Opening - Scroll down) I'll be in line for my first "Center with cheese" of the season.

Assuming I can dig my trailer out of the snow, I'll be attending the 8th Annual Eggscursion at the Townsend KOA in Townsend, TN April 15 - 20.  Hopefully, I'll have some new modifications to report on the trailer before the trip.

Until next time -
