Thursday, January 3 , 2019 - La Posa West, Quartzsite, AZ, Day 27 - 0 Miles, 8,082.2 Miles for the Trip
No change for the weather, but a warm up is predicted for the weekend. After breakfast I did some reading. Started George R. R. Martin's Fire & Blood, a 750+ page prequel to the Game of Thrones series. Should keep me busy for awhile!
After lunch I decided it was time to dump the trailer. While there was lots of room in the gray tank, the black tank was just shy of full, and fresh water down to 1/3. It took about a half hour to pack up the trailer for the move, 20 minutes to fold down the solar panels, and 10 minutes to pack up the insides. One RV in front of me at the dump station, and no one showed up after me, so there was no rush. After dumping, it was off to the fresh water fill station.
I angled the trailer a bit more east of south to try to get more morning sun. Aimed directly south seems to put the most direct light on the panels after the solar controller has shifted to the absorption mode, limiting the charging current. I'd like to get more sunlight during the first 2 hours when the controller is in the boost mode, pumping as much current as possible into the batteries. We will see if it makes a difference. I didn't need to do that last year, but the furnace only ran for a total of 20 minutes to a half hour, or, on most days, not at all. That is not happening this winter. I am using 15 - 20 amp hours on the furnace alone. Worst case, I'll dig out the portable panel and add that to the mix, but to get to it I have to completely empty the truck.
After setting up I did some more reading, then made dinner.
Dinner was a bowl of Progresso Chicken Noodle Soup.
Until Tomorrow
