Another Non-Travel Post

Pet Photos With Santa
One of the opportunities to volunteer for photographers is with our local animal welfare league.  Each year they have a program designed to showcase the dogs & cats they have available for adoption.

They also use it as a fund raiser, selling books, cakes & cookies, and other stuff.  I volunteer to take photos with Santa.  This year was fairly calm; ferrets were the most exotic animal Santa had to hold.  In past years he has posed with parrots, snakes & various reptiles.

I set up a laptop running Lightroom with a small printer (a HP Photosmart A510) which lets me edit & print the photos, stick them in a cardboard frame & hand them to the pet owners in about 3 minutes from taking the image.  We charge $5.00 per photo and it pretty much runs continuously over the 3 hours of the event.

While the cover photo is what we like to end up with, many of the dogs are not all that fond of joining Santa!  This is more typical of attempts to get them together.

In other news, if you listen to NPR and get "Living On Earth", this week my daughter Karin is featured in the "Places Where Your Live" segment. If your local NPR station does not carry Living on Earth, you can read (and hear) the interview here.

That's it for this week.  Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving, and wonderful holidays.
