2024-25 Trip to the Southeast, Day 174

Day 174, Friday, April 11, 2025, Pine Grove Furnace State Park, Bendersville, PA, Day 2 - 0 Miles, 5,068.9 Miles for the Trip

A low of 39°F overnight, and the rain stopped around midnight. Heavy clouds this morning, but no rain. During my morning walk I discovered a larger bathroom a little further away in the opposite direction from the one I found yesterday. It is slightly heated and has showers. I'll do a shower report if I decide to use them, but I did check the shower itself - a push button high pressure 1/2" shower head with a 1.5 second run per push.

Lots of empty sites. When I made the reservation for my site there were only 2 available for the 4 day stay. Not sure why since most of the sites are empty and don't have a reserved sticker on the post. In any case, a nice place if you want to get away from noise and others, but not much happening nearby. There was a Scamp a few sites down from mine that left today.

A speed test with the Mini in its new location shows 56.57Mbps down & 4.04Mbps up. A bit deceptive since there are occasional 5-10 seconds gaps with no connection every couple of minutes, but since I have no AT&T or Verizon coverage, it works for the internet. Not so good for internet radio since the short drops disconnect the stations whose apps don't have large buffers. XM Radio's app is useless. Since I need to use WiFi calling on either cell phone, the random drop out is a problem. Here is a "map" of the obstructions - should be all blue.

Obstructed Check

Not much of a warm up today. 40°F at noon and a light mist. Not enough to cause drops, and even a long walk doesn't get your jacket wet, but you can feel it on your face. The high for the day was 42°F at 4:00 and the light mist is still happening.

Around 2:00 a home built trailer pulled into site 52 next door to me. My Starlink Mini is aimed across his site. I'm glad he isn't in a 13' tall RV. His trailer is low enough that it doesn't look like he is blocking any of the view of the antenna. I ran another obstruction check and it looks the same as the one before he arrives (the one pictured on this page). While there are still many empty sites, lots of folks have arrived during the afternoon. It isn't going to be the best weekend, but if, like me, one is traveling, you have to stop somewhere.

For dinner I thawed (and microwaved) one of the bowls of homemade white chili.

Until Next Time -
