Saturday, March 23, 2019 - Village Creek State Park, Wynne, AR, Day 2 - 0 Miles, 10,217.8 Miles for the Trip
Well, I was hoping that the cell service would improve late at night, but it never got better. While a web page would eventually load, it took between one & five minutes to load a page. None of my internet radio apps were able to find an internet connection. Mail slowly gets through.
While listening to a Memphis FM station reading the local newspaper, I gave up on the local radio stations, put my Verizon phone in the amplifier, and called XM Radio. I restarted the portable radio service for $36.35 for the next 6 months. I dropped it because I rarely used the portable radio in the trailer, but I have to admit that I "rushed to judgment". Six dollars per month is worth paying even if I only use it a couple of times, and I already know that during the time I'm in Cades Cove, it will again be my only connection to the outside world. So, I'm back to complaining about the limited NPR service provided by XM Radio, but I am connected to the outside world (well, at least listening).
A pleasant day, although rain is predicted in the near future. A bit cool this morning at 47°F, but lots of sunshine. By 3:00, it was up to 70°F. The campground is full, with everything from a 40' Class A with 4 slides to tents. While I have neighbors with dogs, they don't bark!
I spent most of the day sitting outside reading; current book is The Escape by David Baldacci. A minor problem with the book is I've read later books about the character (John Puller, Baldacci's equivalent of Lee Child's Reacher), so I know too much about what is going to happen. Still, it is interesting seeing how the results came about, and it is an OK read.
Dinner was a Turkey Bubba Burger & the rest of the salad.
Until Tomorrow -
We flew hot air balloons out of Village Creek S P for years, ending in 2015. We were usually the only folks in the park for the weekend. My, how times have changed.
ReplyDeleteFunny that you mentioned that. As I drove e through the park I thought "This would be a great place for a balloon festival!" Glad to see others had the same idea.
