Zabriskie Point |
Saturday, February 25, 2017, Texas Springs Campground, Death Valley National Park, CA, Day 3, 0 Miles, 4,718.3 Miles For the Trip
Last evening I drove to Zabriskie Point for some sunset photos. As a fellow photographer suggested, it is a better location for sunrise images since the sun sets behind the view, but I did take a few photos anyway. Lots of people there enjoying the sunset. More photos at today's LakeshoreImages page.
Not too bad a night, although a bit cooler than last night - the furnace ran a couple of times during the early morning. After a walk around the campground loops, I decided to make a large breakfast. I made bacon & pancakes with the last of my New Hope Mills buttermilk pancake mix. I doubt I'll be able to find it here in the west since it is made in Auburn, NY, a small town south of Oswego. It is my favorite pancake mix - I should have brought an extra package.
After breakfast I decided to have a do-nothing day, and sat outside in the sun reading. Even though it was only 64°F, because there was little or no wind, it was comfortable. During the afternoon I decided it was time for a shower. Nothing available here at the campground, and while the park newspaper notes there are pay showers at Stovepipe Wells, I don't feel like driving all the way there just for a shower. So, time for the second shower of the trip in the trailer. I do wish there was just a bit more room so I could turn around without banging my elbows. In any case, at least there is plenty of hot water & my gray tank is still near empty.
The campground is still full. Almost as soon as someone pulls out, someone else moves in. Mostly small RVs & tents; I suspect the no generator rule keeps out the big Class A's.
After my shower it was back to the chair and sitting in the sun. Light clouds are moving in, so that may keep it warmer tonight.
Dinner was spaghetti, sausage & meatballs.
Until Tomorrow -
