2025-26 Trip to the Southwest, Day 33

Day 33, Thursday, November 20, 2025 - Oasis RV Park, Van Horn, TX - 125.7 Miles, 2,544.1 Miles for the Trip

It never cooled off until the drive to Van Horn, 70°F overnight. I did a short walk in the wind, then sat in the trailer and read. A short drive today, so I didn't get started until 11:00. Lots of headwinds for the drive, 9.6MPG. I also hit heavy rain and 52°F, the rain heavy enough to use the wipers on the fastest speed and slowed down to 55MPH. It cleared as I reached Van Horn and the temperature was up to 62°F. I finished listening to James by Percival Everett, and while in a rest area downloaded Fever Beach, an audio book by by Carl Hiassen.

The owner of the Oasis asked me to call about 10 minutes before I arrived so I stopped at a rest center just outside of town & called. He met me and assigned me site 20, a full hook up pull through site on gravel for $25.00 per night. Nothing other than a spot for the trailer & the hookups, and close neighbors. Lots of traffic noise from I 10, as well as trains on the other side of the park. Not your ideal location, but all of the rest of the RV parks in town are along the same I 10 Business Loop and I'm only staying tonight. They do have a bathroom - a single room for each sex, the men's has a urinal, sink, toilet & shower. Very dark - the ceiling light is out.

Site 20

According to my weather app it is going down to 41°F overnight. I'm now at 4097' altitude, so even when the days warm up the nights are cool.

After setting up I sat in the trailer and read. Still a bit windy, although not as bad as it was in Fort Stockton or during the drive. I didn't bother unhooking or putting the stabilizers down so every once in awhile the trailer shakes. Around 1:30 it started to rain. Some lightning & thunder and heavy to light rain during which it cooled down to 59°F. Lasted about 45 minutes, then the sun came out and the sky is mostly clear. It is still getting cooler - down to 57°F at 3:00.

Dinner was a Night Hawk Chicken Enchilada Fiesta

Until Next Time -
