Day 97, Thursday, November 9, 2017 - Jumbo Rocks, Joshua Tree National Park, CA, Day 2

Night Sky Looking North
Thursday, November 9, 2017 - Jumbo Rocks, Joshua Tree National Park, CA, Day 2, 0 Miles, 2,950.7 Towing Miles For the Trip

Well, I lied about dinner last night. When I went to town to post yesterday's page, I found a Rite Aid, stopped and picked up a couple of things. When I came out I looked up Grocery Store using Safari, and found an address for the Statler Brothers. I entered it in Matilda, my GPS, and she informed me that the address didn't exist. Since she couldn't find a grocery store last year, I decided to do a "Grocery Store" search again. Matilda informed me that there was a Statler Brothers .6 miles away, and gave me the address - of course it was the one she couldn't find when searching by address.

So, I did a bit more shopping, and picked up some excellent fried chicken (the best of the trip) and some egg potato salad for dinner. While all that was going on, the best sunset of the week took place while I was in the parking lot. Oh well, that's the breaks.

This morning I walked around the campground for a bit before breakfast - a few people moved out & their sites were quickly filled by wandering campers. By mid afternoon the "Campground Filled" sign went up, but that didn't stop hopeful campers. Probably a good idea, since I've often found sites in "Filled" campgrounds. I had a long talk with one of the campground maintenance men. It started with me asking if there is a laundromat in Twentynine Palms (there isn't - nearest is in Joshua Tree about 30 miles away), and continued on discussing different parks, tow vehicles, and some of the recent history of Joshua Tree.

I read for a bit, then decided it would be a good day to install my Bogart Industries battery monitor. The battery monitor keeps track of how many amp hours come out of the batteries, as well as how many go back in. The result is you have a much better idea of how full your batteries are compared to checking voltage, or even worse, a row of lights.

Like all projects, a few "got ya's" along the way, but it eventually got done. I will still have to do a bit of work on the old work box the monitor is installed in - the 1/8" plywood the box is mounted in is too thin for the fingers on the box. I'll have to add some shims to build it out. Electrically, it works fine.

By the time I finished, it was dinner time, which was left over fried chicken & the rest of the egg potato salad.

It is late enough that I'm not going to post this today - maybe tomorrow. I did take a few late afternoon photos & included one of them. Great light. I also did a star circle & a couple of night star photos as well as a panorama.

Until the Next Internet Connection -
