Day 37, Monday, September 10, 2018 - Morefield Campground, Mesa Verde National Park, CO

Shiprock, NM
Monday, September 10, 2018 - Morefield Campground, Mesa Verde National Park, CO, Day 2, 0 Miles, 3,753.5 Miles for the Trip

I went out with the 17 - 35 mm wide angle lens & took a few photos of the milky way; even managed to include a meteorite.

We ate breakfast at the campground complex. Pancakes & bacon for $8.00, and expensive (and lousy, but free refills all day) coffee at $2.65. Still, easier than making it at the trailer. We will probably do it again tomorrow.

After breakfast we headed to Canyons of the Ancients National Monument & Hovenweep National Monument to see & photograph more ruins. There is a nice museum at the Canyons of the Ancients visitor center that we enjoyed. We stopped along the way to upload yesterday's web page & photos since I seem to be able to receive mail, but the internet connection on the park WiFi, as well as both AT&T & Verizon don't seem capable of uploading anything.

Lots of driving (it is a 90 mile loop around the two locations, and we added another 150 miles by going to photograph Shiprock in New Mexico. I did it on a previous trip, but only from the south, and there was quite a bit of smoke from area wildfires. This time I got off on the wrong direction, but found an interesting location to photograph it from the north. There was still quite a bit of haze, but I posted a few images.

Anyhow, it was dinner time by the time we hit Cortez on the way back to Mesa Verde, so we stopped at the Denny's for dinner. I had my usual when in real restaurants that don't have fish on the menu - a chicken fried steak. Not the best, but far from the worst. On edit - maybe I have to knock it down a notch or two - I was up much of the night, thankful I had a bathroom in the trailer!  Things seem to have settled down now that I'm in Blanding.  More later...

We arrived back at the campsites around 7:00.

Until Tomorrow -
