The Milky Way Over the Trailer |
Much warmer overnight - only down to 51°F rather than Thursday's low of 31°F (which froze my water line for a couple of hours). I went outside last night around 10:00 to try for some star & milky way photos, but the traffic on the main road into the campground & my next door neighbors made it difficult - headlights, taillights & flashlights. It is also not the best time of year for the milky way. Too edge on so you don't get the full impact. I included a few photos anyway. The other two are at today's LakeshoreImages post.
I decided to go to the park restaurant for dinner. A nice adobe building that is also a lodge with many rooms. Only problem is it is only open until 2:00PM & I arrived at 5:00. No problem, I'll head to town only 4 miles away. There are about 4 restaurants in town, and guess what? They all close at 2:00. Doesn't anyone visiting Fort Davis eat dinner? What's more, one of them had outside tables with people drinking wine & eating cheese, but no one came to seat me & no one seemed to be in charge.
I headed to Porter's Thriftway, the local grocery store hoping they had fried chicken or other prepared meals, but while they were open, no fast food. I settled for a frozen packet of Tastee Choice Orange Chicken (a meal for 2, complete with rice). Actually, while I've never heard of it before, it wasn't bad. A bit too much sauce for the amount of rice, few Chinese vegetables, but plenty of chicken, and enough for 1 1/2 people.
I'm not driving back to the top of Skyline drive to post this, so you will have to wait until tomorrow when I drive through somewhere with cell coverage.
I'm now in Marathon, TX, found a good Verizon signal, so I'm posting yesterday's page. Who knows when the next post will be - no cell service at Rio Grance Village other than WiFi at the store.
Until Tomorrow?
