House on Fire, Mule Canyon, UT |
We all decided it was time to slow down a bit (actually, I think Don & Anne were ready to rebel). We went to Mule Canyon and a mile hike to the House on Fire ruin. This is a favorite of mine to photograph - I took 1st place at the New York State Fair Photo Contest a few years back with an image of the ruin. We met a fellow traveler at the ruin, chatted a bit about places, then headed back to the grocery store & the trailer. It looks like quite a flood went through the canyon recently. I included a photo that shows grass & bushes, that, is some places, were leaning downstream 4' - 6' above the canyon floor. Glad we didn't go earlier when the bottom was covered with mud, or even earlier when the flash flood occurred!
We spent the rest of the afternoon sitting around reading outside. A bit of wind, but the tree Don & Anne are parked next to provided shade (at an additional $4.00 for the tree).
Dinner was brats, snap peas, and watermelon for dessert.
