Site 18 |
A longer drive than usual, and longer than I like. I had made reservations at one of the campgrounds in the San Luis Reservoir State Recreation Area since it was about half way to Bakersfield, a planned stop. I looked up the campgrounds & the San Luis Creek has electric & water, so I made a reservation. $40.00 per night plus a $7.99 reservation fee! Works out to $42.66 per night, one of the most expensive campgrounds of the trip.
At check in I discovered that another campground in the Recreation Area has flush toilets & showers, so I asked to change campgrounds. After an exciting left turn across 4 lanes of 65MPH traffic on CA 152, I discovered that, although the Basalt Campground does have pay showers, they don't have electricity or water. Would have been nice for them to mention no hookups at the entrance station since I paid for them. So, another mad dash across CA 152 (another left turn, both times with long waits for a break in the traffic) and back to San Luis Creek Campground.
No showers or even bathrooms - Vault toilets only. I checked out the one near my site & a very large black spider has a web centered about 3" below the seat. I think I'll use the trailer!
I'm in site 18, which is listed as a 30' site, although the tongue of my 21 (which, when measured the way stick built trailers determine length, would be a 19', is 5' from the road with the trailer wheels against the concrete backstop. Each site has a longer space for the trailer & a shorter one for the tow vehicle. My Tacoma just fits. Still, a pretty site that overlooks one of the reservoirs. I included a photo of a flock of ducks just behind my trailer, which you can see at today's LakeshoreImages page. Warm, but quite windy. If the sky stays clear & there are not too many lights in the area, I'll try for some star photos tonight.
There is both an AT&T & Verizon signal (-92dBm for Verizon & -101dBm for AT&T, each without an amplifier). Both showed 4G LTE, but the data rates, particularly uploads, are very slow.
It was late enough after setting up that I took a short walk around the campground (all the sites are about the same size), then started dinner, which was a microwaved Amy's Broccoli & Cheddar dinner.
Until Tomorrow -
