The Pot Luck Dinner |
It cooled off quite a bit, waking up to 49°F outside, and, since I didn't bother firing up the heater last night, 53°F in the trailer. OK for sleeping, but a bit cold to crawl out of bed. I stayed in until 9:00, then decided it was time. I walked to the dam above the campground where the sun was shining; it was nice & warm, then back around the campground loops where it was still in the shade & cool. After breakfast, it was a quick shower. I'm glad they are heated!
A little after that a neighbor suggested a trip to see the Museum of the Middle Appalachians in Saltville, VA about a half hour south of the campground. While small, the museum was well worth a visit. A very knowledgeable individual running the place who gave us lots of information about the area & the salt business during the civil war. There was an interesting tie in between Saltville & Syracuse (near my home town) since both were major producers of salt. Some photos of the museum at today's LakeshoreImages page.
After we returned to the campground I discovered that the pot luck was tonight, not tomorrow. So, no blueberry pie! I'll make one for the hanger's on that will still be here tomorrow. The pot luck was great, with plenty of food & lots of desserts even without my pie.
We hung around the campfire (a neat idea source of heat made with screen boxes filled with wood pellets instead of logs) until it got too cold for us.
Until tomorrow -
